Caution! Computer games may harm your kids!
Essay Topic: Does the extensive use of computer/video games have an adverse impact on the health of young people. What are the most recent papers? Clarify what all sides of the argument claim and only then offer your reasoned opinion based on facts.
Caution! Extensive play computer games may harm young people.
After stepping into 21st century, the revolution of the new technology has changed the communication style of the world. Obviously, computers are the most important devices that bring lot of benefits of the social communication. Computer and video games are the dramatic related products which influenced young people. People believed that extensive usage of computer/video games will have negative effects to the young users from both physiology and psychology perspective. It is reported that the computer/video games bring more problems than the television for the young generation of people (David 2000). However, there are some researchers also consider that the games may bring some benefits to young people from the education area. This essay is going to discuss both the negative and positive effects of extensive play computer/video games.
Obviously, many teachers and parents believed that computer and video games will influence young people with the information of violence. Most of the computer games developed with the topic or issue making the players finish or achieve some goal by killing others or defeating someone else. The young users have less control with that information and could not distinguish what is right and wrong. Sidra and Pakistan (2011) have similar perspective with most of the teachers and parents; “Games are very important in kids', teenagers' or youngsters' lives but most of the computer games have now brought negative effects on our youngsters because these games are based on plots of violence, aggression and gender favoritism”. Also, the young kids spend most of the time on playing computer/video games will have less time for the real world communication with their parents, teachers and friends. Therefore, the young people will have less communication skills in the social community. A negative result is that they will then rely more on computer games or cyberspace. Lastly, there is a both physiology and psychology problem caused by computer/video games. According to the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, the young people played computer games which had violence plots may use violent in school, which will be harmful to their school mates (The Independent 2012). In addition to those, the young kids may repeat or copy the actions or words from the computer or video games, so some violent on campus might be caused or even worse, some social problems would appear. In another word, the computer and games make the kids touch violent too earlier, which they have less control with themselves, therefore, many problems would be produced. And if their parents stop them playing games or reduce the time, most of the kids would continue playing those games without knowing by their parents. However, if their parents keep them away from the games, there might be some family problems happen, for example, running away from home or even suicide.
For the physiology field, there are many news and research state that extensive use of computer and video games will make damage of the physiology health. Based on the research of Europe media (2002), Gavin Cleary of Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London, “Parents and children should be aware of potential health problems that could be caused by prolonged use of the devices”. They found a 15 years boy had damaged his hand because of playing the computer games by the vibrating control devices; and he played at least seven hours per day. Also, many teenagers addicted on the computer games and spent lots of time on playing that or even had no sleep, food and drinks while playing games; and as a result, their health would be menaced. Lot of news published about extensive playing games and finally led the young life to die. In addition, as playing video games should focus on watching the monitor; the concentration of the players should be very high. As a result, the young players are growing up with a high pressure and high electromagnetic radiation, which has negative influence to the health of kids.
However, there are some researchers found that young people play computer and video games may bring some positive effects as well. A pervious study reported that, the people who played computer games a lot when they were young or current spent time on games have better eye-hand coordination (Jordana 2011). That is, the young children could be trained the eye-hand working ability while playing computer games, which will help kids develop their brain. Also, some small games, which have some educational helps, develop the ability of study. The teachers use those games in class to improve interesting of studying; therefore, kids could have impression of what they have learnt. With the games, kids could preview what they will learn next and practice what they have learnt. In this way, the study efficiency would be improved.
To sum up, extensive playing computer and video games are harmful to the young people; especially, the violence or gender favoritism information makes the young people copy or repeat during the real world life. What was worth is that the young children want to play games without eating and sleeping, and finally affecting the tragedy. However, there are still some benefits of playing computer games. For example, playing computer/video games could help the kids improve their ability of eye-hand coordination. But if the parents and teachers are force the young players stop spending time on the computer games, the situation might be even worse. Therefore, the parents should supervising the time and types of using computer/video games in order to helping the kids to avoid the harm. And the teachers could educate the young people how to play computer games and what kinds of games are beneficial them.

Week Six Task Two: Democracy and China
Some social networking platforms, such as Facebook and YouTube were blocked by the Chinese government. The problems are those platforms may provide a channel for people to share their own experience or opinions without knowing who you are. For some careerists, those platforms are good tools to incite other people. The careeists might try to stiffen their wavering people against the government; therefore, those forms were forced to be closed in China.
So, people may ask, what is the democracy of China? People can not share their opinions?
Of course, China still has democracy. That is, people should share opinions online through the channel, which the government allows. Also, the content should not include anything against the constitution or any other laws. Therefore, we can not say there is no free speech or democracy in China, but all things should obey the laws. The government offers some channels for people to complain. For example, citizens could leave messages to the mayor on the official web page of the city government. Also, for most websites of China, they all have something like the securty check before users post their stuff to aviod violence, pornography and information against immorality.

Week Five Task Two: Social Media Site
Elmore, K 2010, What is social meida? Kentucky Banker Magazine, http://search.proquest.com.libraryproxy.griffith.edu.au/docview/226110184
For most of us, social media or internet may have the images like Facebook, Twitter or YouTube. However, we can say those are platforms of social media but not all social media. Then, the question is "what is social media?"
According to Elmore (2010), social media actually is the way people connecting with each other and providing information. Social media offers individuals a place to deliver, receive and common the information. Some most well-known social media site are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and Blog of course. Those platforms allow users to share their information to a group of "audience".
In short, we can say that we are living with social media everyday. Just simply turning on the computer and geting on the internet; chating with friends, share photos and watching the most popular videos.

Week 4:Post one "What is the cybernetics"
Duffy. P. R, 1984, Cybernetics, Sage Publications. http://job.sagepub.com.libraryproxy.griffith.edu.au/content/21/1/33.full.pdf
What is Cybernetics (控制论)?
"Cybernetics is concerned with communication and manipulation (熟练的操作;操纵;控制) of information and its use in controlling the behavior of biological, physical, and chemical systems. Others would add society, social systems, and organizations, as areas for cybernetic study and research." ----------- P.R.Duffy, 1984.
Two virtues of great importance:
Cybernetics offers
1. a sigle vocabulary and a single set of divers types of systems (e.g Microsoft and Apple); and
2. a method for the scientific treatment of complex systems.
Difference between Cybernetics and Systems Theory:
1. systems theory is frequently but incorrectly identified with cybernetic and control theory; and
2. different historical origins; and
3. both approaches have led scholars of communication to a study of larger context of systems with which communication is identified.

Week Three Task Two:The old internet technology-
As the internet growing so fast today, many media we used before have faded away from the internet. Most of those media could not fit the needs of our life. For example, we want to share photos at anytime and anywhere. Some of the old internet technologies had to change to catch up the need of the users.
Let's take AOL as an example. Let's first to have a look of the offical website of AOL today (www.aol.com). In order to increasing the usage of the people all over the world, they have already provided lots of ways to find them, which were really young applications in the 21st century. For example, Twitter. It's believed that, more and more people will join Twitter and share their opinions and ideas on that.

As we all know that, Facebook and Twitter are two major networking platforms for us, lots of other applications or users relying on them, such as the Talkbox, etc. Facebook offers a username/ID that users' friends and families knows, that is, easy to find each other. That is why lots of other media could rely on them. Users do not have to create a new ID and password, just using Facebook or Twitter and sync the address book, then they can invite their old friends to join another group of new media. Personally, something like Facebook or Twitter provide a "user ID" might last long because people still need a identity through internet activities.

Week Two Task One: What is Communication?
Communication, personally, is the way a subject getting connection with other subjects. For example, the teacher talks to the students and we use MSN to chat with each other.
But I think the communication could be set as two major types: one-way communication and both-way communication.

Based on the theory of Shannon and Weaver, we can say the one way communication is only the messge producers processing the noise source to the message receiver. For example, when we have presentation, the main purpose of the presentation itself is to produce the information to the audience. However, if we want to get some feedback from the audience based on the presentation, we can say this is both-way communication.
What eles can be one way communication? Some media, such as books, telegraph, radio, photograph and Screen industries could be put as one-way communication, as we can only "see" what they want to "tell" us, but we can not "talk"to them at the same time. Oppositly, the media, like telephone and internet, give us a channel to chat, which is hearing from them and telling them somthing.

Week Two Task Two "experiences with communication technologies"
As I was born in China, the way of communication is different from Australia. When I started high school. a networking tool Xiaonei became famous. It is similar to Facebook. Users just sign up a account using their real name and personal information, like the school you attended, the name of the workplace.
At the very beginning, there's a rumour about that the Japanese company owned Xiaonei wanted to get the real information from Chinese young students in order to evaluate the country. However, after Xiaonei renamed to "RenRen", more and more students joint in it. I have already used this networking for almost 6 years. Most of my school mates, friends, teachers even the famous celebrities start using RenRen as a tool to communicate with old school mates. Also, I found that lots of people coming from other countries, such as America, they are trying to use RenRen in order to get a close relationship with Chinese friends.
http://www.renren.com Try to join this, which will make you know more about China. Of course, the Chinese words on this website may be a trouble to you, leaving me a message, I will be happy to help you!
